In 1982, a group of nurses to Surgical Center , participants of the Brazilian Association of Nursing (ABEn), São Paulo section, understood that it was necessary to have quarrels focused in the Nursing practices and scientifical researches about the assistance given in the Surgical Block. Based on this demand, the professionals had decided to create the Group of Study in Surgical and Material Centers (GECC).

Nine years later, GECC already had enough skills and influence to transform themselves into a society oriented to educational continued of the operating nurses in this area. Thus, SOBECC was born, in September 4th of 1991, initially only as a Brazilian Society of Nurses to Surgical Center , that was held over by the Nurse Ana Maria Ferreira de Miranda, one of the GECC precursors.

SOBECC's Mission

It has as mission the nursing interventions and the results of the surgical patient. To prepare technically and scientifically our nursing professional and evenmore to create rules referring to the functioning of the Surgical Center, Central Material Center and Sterilization and Anesthetical Recovery, to be spreading out by courses, symposiums, congresses and certifications, information on new technologies, measures of perioperative assistance "
